Data collection can be used for every teacher, regardless of
subject area and grade level. The system can be used to input information
regarding attendance, grades, evaluations, etc. As a World Geology for 6th
graders, the teacher can use this information to input their students grade and
attendance. Even though there are many software’s that is more user friendly
than excel, a school might not have the enough funding. With that being said,
Excel is a great alternative.
I did enjoy reading my classmates blogs since some were very
similar while some were different. For instance, one of my classmates mentioned
how storia is a great E-book website. She
goes into depth of how it’s beneficial to young students and teachers. In
addition, I was intrigued when I realized she did not enjoy podcasts, because I
thought I was the only one. For her privacy, I did not mention her name.
Regarding with technology, I would like to become familiar
with Microsoft software, besides Word, Powerpoint, and Excel. Even though I am
not sure if I will use it frequently in my college years, I know that having
background in this field will make my job as a teacher smoother.

The flipped classroom strategy is
when teachers prerecord themselves lecturing materials and assigns the video
has homework. I believe this strategy is helpful because students will know
what will be discussed in the classroom. However, I doubt that kids will pay attention
to the videos once they are in their home. Click here
to access a website with numerous options for creating a flipped classroom
video.
Open educational resources are free
materials provided by an institution for learning purposes. Anyone can have
access to the material, even if they are not a student, for the experience. A
website that any school can provide material is on OER commons (click here for link). Unlike universities, who
can afford a private open educational website, any teacher can use this
website.
I personally enjoyed creating the PowerPoint for Information
Dissemination assignment. In the
classroom, I was always curious as to how my teachers created the jeopardy game
they created. I liked how this form of PowerPoint feels like a game, rather
than a lecture. The information dissemination could be used to test my students’
materials that we have been reviewing in the classroom.

At the sports psychology lab, I was
exposed to numerous technologies that could be useful in the classroom. Many of
the tools are beneficial for athletes, but as well as with students. One that
caught my attention was the isenser. Three years ago, the isenser was this enormous
device that weights around eight pounds. Now, the isenser is small and
compacted, and you can attach it to your phone. The isenser would be beneficial
in the school setting because it allows teachers to view what they missed.
Microsoft PowerPoint has changed
the way we give presentations. A PowerPoint would be very useful if you are
teaching an area of history PowerPoint can be used to target each level of the
Bloom’s Taxonomy. For instance, you may give important facts and dates that the
students should remember and understand through text or images. In addition,
you may have information where the student can apply it to real world situation,
such as the effects of a certain event. Student’s may analyze and evaluate the
event in the context of what would have happened if it never occurred. Finally,
students can create a group assignment or project from the information they
have gathered.
A website that will allow anyone
stay up-to-date with technology trends is Techcrunch. Techcrunch is a website

Assistive technology is used for
students who have a disability and needs assistance. For instance, the podcast
refers to how a student who has a physical may use a text to speak software to read
their material. Also, a braille printer would allow a blind student to read.
From my experience, I have never witnessed a student use an assistive
technology. The only challenges I can picture
with using an adaptive technology in class is how the student might fall behind
if they are new with the technology
From working on the Web Page Design
assignment, I have become more creative with my layout design. I enjoyed how I a
lot of freedom of where to insert new material, however, I was not a fan of how
I could not but more than one picture on the same row. With weebly, I could
create a website that the guardians of my patients may use in order to stay up-to-date.
Through Diigo, I learned an
innovative way to mark important parts of an article. Diigo would be great for
the classroom because students may help one another by explaining why certain
parts of a piece is important. Incorporating the suggestion of another individual’s
thoughts into our work can tremendous change the results.

In Ms. Simon’s classroom page, she introduces how her
students will find the lesson plan, through her website. She introduces where
her AP, dual enrollment, and theater students may find any documents that will
be needed to print out. In addition, she provides her email and phone extension
if any parents need to contact her. She
is a teacher at Hialeah Senior High School and teaches 9th grade- 12th
grade.
As a teacher, I can envision myself using numerous technology
to enhance my responsibilities. For instance, I would use an evaluation rubric
to effectively evaluate my student’s work. Also, it would benefit my student’s
as well because they will be familiar as to what they are expected of from
their assignment. In addition, I would use numerous Microsoft PowerPoint as a
guide while exposing my student to new material.
At the technology sandbox, I was exposed to numerous devices
that I could use in the classroom setting.
One of my favorite technology SMART table. I enjoyed how the material is
durable and how two students can use it simultaneously. Since it is very
expensive and would most likely only have one in my classroom, I would use the
device as a reward for the student of the week. It is an engaging yet fun device.

There are numerous Web
2.0 technologies, that even though they do not meet the ELA standards, they are
extremely useful in the classroom. As mentioned in the podcast, students can
share information among their peers through twitter and delicious. Instead of
manually texting each classmate, the student is allowed to notify them of their
beneficial discoveries in a simplistic manner. Honestly, I could not find a web
2.0 tool that is useless because each tool will expose students to new
materials and allows teacher to expand their professional development.
A web 2.0 tool that I would
use if I was a teacher, is Wikispaces. This tool would allow me to update my
students of any assignments or prospective events. In addition, wikispace is an
easier method of contacting myself. A student may have a question regarding towards
their assignments but are not familiarized with a quick contact method.
However, being active on Wikispaces will allow me to answer any questions my
students have. Click here
to access Wikispace.
A technology advancement
that will hold tremendous promise for education, is three- dimensional
printing. 3D printing will change how teaches present certain material, since
they will have a physical model to provide. This advancement is extremely
beneficial to kinesthetic and visual learners, since they will be able to feel
and see the material first-handed.

Honestly,
twitter has never caught my attention. When I made my first twitter account, I was
uncomfortable uploading quotes or just general statements relating to my
personal life. Many of my peers are very social on twitter by displaying their
beliefs and emotion, however, I prefer keeping such manners to myself. After
creating an account for educational reasons, I was intrigued by how many
interesting recent articles appeared. I am allowed to get myself posted on the
very interesting articles. Twitter would be useful for me in the future if I followed
visual impairment accounts, and being posted on how other visual rehabilitation
therapist are treating their patients
The
digital divide affects an individual’s confidence once they enter the work
field. If a student has grown up in an environment surrounded by technology (student
A), they will be more willing to explore a new software. However, if a student
grew up in a rural environment, they will shy away from exploring technology (Student
B). For instance, if both students were
introduced to a draw program (allow students to create digital images), student
A would most likely know how to maneuver the system, while student B is a might
lost. Student A has access to a draw program back at her home since she has a
computer, while student B does not.
Evaluating
a website is extremely important if you want to receive true information. Many
should be aware of a website’s political stance, the author’s background, the
website’s layout, and the domain if you want to receive relatable information. When
I am conducting research for a paper, I am very cautious of the author’s
creditability, the time when it was written, and the domain name. The factors
that I just listed is important because you need credible information for your
assignment, and many individuals have easily lied on the internet before.

After reading the ELA technology standards, I realized that I
am prepared to teach “Use Multiple Sources.” I am capable of teaching this
standard for the fact being that I have mastered this skill. I have written
numerous essays for which I had to be very careful when it came to citing
information so I would not encounter legal issues. A standard that I do not
feel very comfortable is “Multimedia:” Literature. I believe that I would have
to take courses that deals with analyzing multimedia elements to master this
standard.
As a teacher, I would like to us instant messaging(IM) with
my students. Instant messaging would allow me to send daily reminders to my
students and vice versa. Back in high school, a teacher of mine would use the
app “Remind” to send us reminders of assignments and if we had any questions,
we would receive a response soon via the app. With my students (ages 9-11), I would
address the digital citizenship concepts. They need to be aware that even
though you are not physically communicating with an individual, you are by a
device. The way the portray themselves via the internet is a reflection of who
they are and there are other individuals involved.
At first, I was intimidated by the Newsletter assignment
because I never had to anything creative on Microsoft words besides writing
essay. From doing this assignment, I have learned how to add columns to any
assignments done on word. I like how this effect allows multiple columns on a
page. However, I disliked the moments where the banner would randomly move.
This assignment taught me that it takes creativity to make an assignment aesthetically
pleasing and it is a reflection of your dedication to your career. This assignment is useful because in the
future I will most likely send Newsletter to my patents to keep them updated.
Here is an image of my Newsletter assignment:

Ever since elementary school, I
have done assignments that requires Microsoft Word. Over the years, I have
typed the majority of my essays on Microsoft Word. As a college student, I have
taken notes on Microsoft words. By doing so, I have been able to record more
information that my professor has provided. In addition, I have noticed that my
teachers have used Microsoft Word to create their lesson plans, syllabus, and
worksheets. A teacher that I had in high
school would always type up the expectations for each assignment via Microsoft
Word and would hand it out to her students for clarity.
Living in a digital environment, I
have always been aware of copyrighted material. There were many occasions for
which my teachers explicitly told the class what materials were appropriate due
to copyrighted issues. For a project that I did, I had to be very selective for
which song I would incorporate in my PowerPoint to avoid legal issues, but my
reasons are under the fair use guidelines.
As a teacher, I would thoroughly read all the fair use guidelines so my
materials would not interfere with it and explain my students work that is
copyrighted and how to not to credit for another individual’s work.
As a teenager, I only used twitter
for the purpose of finding funny contexts. However, I learned that Twitter is
an incredible tool for connecting with your students. I discovered that Twitter
and other personal learning networks can be used to remind students of due
dates, contact with students and parents faster, and take classroom time. There
are numerous personal learning networks that has given teachers, students, and
parents a tremendous advantage regarding contacting one another.

As technology advances, so does the
equipment in a classroom setting. Across the nation, a computer is the key
device. The computer gives teachers and students access to multiple programs
that are time savers, reduces space, and improves their educational experience.
Nowadays, there are software that allows teachers to input attendance and
grades rather than keeping a physical record. For students, many will engage in
activities via the internet that will incorporate the materials they have learned.
The book, Teaching and Learning with
Technology, mentions numerous organizations, such as the Association for Educational Communications
and Technology and the International
Society for Technology in Education, that focuses on the usage of technology
in the classroom setting and their benefits. As technology has created a change
in the education field, many teachers still believe incorporating technology in
their classroom is not necessary. This is an error on the teacher’s part
because they need to expose their students of the skills they will need in the
long run. In addition, even though the computer is beneficial to both teachers
and students, standards and assessment tests should be mandatory so both sides
will get the most out of the computer.
The International Society for
Technology in Education have developed standards of technology for teachers and
students in order for each individual to be a productive member in the technological
era. The ISTE standards for students’ goal is to prepare them with the technological
knowledge that is needed in order to become successful in the future. A standard
that caught my attention was digital citizenship.
I admired how the ISTE is promoting positive usage of technology among our students
because our students need to be aware of the legal and emotional consequences
of their actions. The ISTE standards for teachers’ goal is to make sure they
are successful in their career and enhance their students experience with enriching
learning experiences. A standard that I have yet to master is model digital age work and learning. Frankly,
I am embarrassed for the fact that there are a number of software’s that I am
not familiar with. However, I am aware that in order to be an effective teacher,
I will need to master any flaws that I have that would interfere with my
student’s experience in the classroom.
I recently came across a podcast
named as “Digital Natives”, that introduces a set of terminology to distinguish
an individual’s experience and sense of comfort among technology, such as
digital native and digital immigrant. A
digital native is an individual who grew up in an environment surrounded by technology
and cannot remember a time period without technology. On the contrary, a digital
immigrant is an individual who was introduced to technology as it was being developed.
A digital native is known for learning how to maneuver through new technology
with no help, as a digital immigrant is more cautious and prefers using a form of
guide as they are exposed to a new device. Today’s youth is primarily digital
natives for the fact that they are constantly surrounded by technology. My
generation has been exposed to numerous devices that has made daily tasks convenient.
As a student, there have been several incidents where my teacher was not aware
of what they were doing on their computer and would need a student’s assistance.
My classmates and I would often find our teacher’s lack of knowledge humorous
since we envisioned our teachers as “old”. Even though their lack of knowledge took
away time from the lesson, these incidents reminded us that our teachers are
just like any other person and they are trying their best to keep up with these
advances. Just as my previous teacher faced hindrances with the advancing technology,
so will I. Even though I grew up in a decade of technology, my students will use
the upcoming technology for personal benefits while I would use the technology for
work related manners. Eventually, I will be the individual who will need assistance
with the new upcoming technology.

Test blog
Due to the fact that I was exposed to standardized tests since elementary school, I have always had basic knowledge regarding the use of technology. I had the opportunity of having access to a computer at home, so my older sister would teach me the basic skills to properly use a computer. Later on, I took two years of a computer competency and keyboard skill class in my middle school to improve my skills. Throughout the years, I learned how to maneuver through Microsoft word and power point since I was asked to do assignment using this technology. As a senior in high school, I was enrolled in a dual enrollment course regarding computer competency. I noticed that when it came to excel, I was pretty lost. It was a device I never had to use and did not really think I would use it in the future.
Regarding with this course, I hope to sharpen my skills with Microsoft devices. By the end of this semester, I would like to know how to guide myself with Microsoft excel and other programs that I am not familiar with. I assume that this course will make me more knowledgeable upon a computer. Even though I will not work in a classroom setting, I am aware that my career requires me to input data on certain programs. It would be quite embarrassing if I entered the workforce without being knowledgeable of how to maneuver myself through well known resources.
Through a learning style test, I learned that I am a reflective learner. Actually, this perfectly describes the way I learn. I review my notes from a class on a day to day bases and usually will write the main idea of a concept. Also, I am a sensing learner by the fact that i prefer a set of steps rather than a free range of steps. I always knew that I am a visual learner due to my experiences in a math class, if my professor just said the steps- I would be completely lost, but if my professor wrote down the steps and saw step to step- I would understand it. I am a sequential learner as I never have liked it when professors just jump to a random topic. I need to know the connection one lecture has to another one.
